CAGE – for alcohol use

This short self-test may help you identify whether you or a loved one has a problem with alcohol. Please take a few minutes to complete this test.

C	Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking?
A	Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
G	Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking?
E	Eye opener: Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?

The CAGE can identify alcohol problems over the lifetime. If you have answered “yes” to two or more questions, consider taking the test below to determine the severity of your drinking.

C	Have you ever felt you should cut down on your use of drugs/medications?
A	Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drug use or medication history?
G	Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your use?
E	Eye opener: Have you ever used a drug first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to start feeling “normal” again?

The CAGE can identify substance problems over the lifetime. If you have answered “yes” to two or more questions, consider taking the test below to determine the severity of your drug use. Simply substitute “drugs” for “alcohol” when taking the test.
