The Willis-Knighton-based Dragon Boat Races team – “40 Arms of Fury” – paddled their way to the Green Division title at the annual races Saturday on the Red River. “40 Arms of Fury” crossed the finish line in a time of 1:19.44, which was one second ahead of its nearest competitor.
Thirty teams competed in the event and teams were divided into divisions based upon their preliminary times. “40 Arms of Fury” competed in the Green Division, the middle competition class.
“Dragon Boat racing has been a popular sport in the northern states for years,” says K.C. Smith, fitness instructor at WK Pierremont who organized the winning team. “This is our fourth successful year. It was fun to meet fellow Willis-Knighton employees and work together as a team.”
Team members include: Patrick Bicknell, Victoria Brown, Bailey Bryant, Geoff Cazes, Jon Cheek, Rev. Andrew Comeaux, Rachel Corpier, Brittney Cotton, Keisha Dyson, J.D. Hartley, Julie Hartley, Courtney Herzog, Chase Hessen, David Lee, Meghan Menard, Courtney Merzog, Debby Morris, Jerry Morris, Bruce Stroud, Brittany Turner, Darren Warren, Billy Weatherall and Randy Wilson.
Smith was especially thankful to Stroud for what she deemed “stepping up to lead the team to victory.”
