The Labor and Delivery Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Willis-Knighton South and the Center for Women’s Health have been designated Level III Regional Units by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
"This designation by DHH affirms that the NICU and Labor and Delivery meet the highest standards set by state with regard to the care of both mothers and their children," said G. Brent Whitton, M.D., NICU medical director.
Level III NICU and Level III Obstetrics programs represent the highest levels of care for premature babies and for mothers in high-risk pregnancies. Both the neonatal and obstetrics units must meet specific levels of staffing (medical, nursing and allied health positions) and technology as well as offer the availability of transport services. The survey was conducted in September by DHH’s Bureau of Health Services Financing.
