Willis-Knighton Health System has added da Vinci Si Surgical System robots at Willis-Knighton South and WK Bossier Health Center. The health system now has robots at all four of its hospitals, making it the leading da Vinci provider in Louisiana.
With over 30 da Vinci-trained surgeons at its four facilities Willis-Knighton features the most robotic surgeons in the region. Among them is William L. Norwood, M.D., who was the second surgeon in the United States and first in Louisiana to remove a diseased gallbladder through a patient’s navel through a single incision with the da Vinci Si Surgical System. According to Intuitive Surgical, the manufacturer of the da Vinci Si, Norwood is the highest overall volume robotic-assisted general surgeon in the U.S., and is the third leading single-site surgeon in the nation.
Single-site instrumentation provides da Vinci Si customers with a technology that enables cholecystectomy (gallbladder surgery) via a single incision, while providing the benefits of traditional multiport da Vinci Surgery. Willis-Knighton Medical Center is one of five “Intuitive Epicenters” in the United States to offer the single incision gallbladder with the da Vinci robot.
