Willis-Knighton Health System’s Respiratory Care Department has received the 2014 Hospital of the Year for Respiratory Care from the Louisiana Society for Respiratory Care. The award was presented at the group’s annual educational meeting in Baton Rouge.
The award is given by the organization each year to recognize a facility that has demonstrated and met criteria that enhance and promote the profession while providing quality care and successful outcomes for patients. Among the outstanding qualities cited for Willis-Knighton’s Respiratory Care Department were implementation of therapist-drive protocols, the level of specialty units that receive services from the department, an outstanding retention rate and mentoring of students from local universities. These demonstrate the department’s commitment to professionalism and teamwork.
“This is a real honor for our staff,” said Mike Chandler, directory of respiratory care for Willis-Knighton. “Our staff is committed to the highest standards of patient care, and it is truly gratifying to be recognized by your peers who understand the challenges of our profession and the kind of work we do day and night.”
The department provides care at all four Willis-Knighton hospitals as well as at the WK Hyperbaric & Wound Care Center at WK Canterbury Square on the campus of Willis-Knighton South.
