Nutrition after pregnancy is just as important as nutrition during pregnancy. It’s natural for mothers to want to return to pre-pregnancy weight quickly, but there are health hazards associated with losing weight too rapidly.
Mothers seeking assistance with a healthy diet plan should consider the services offered through the WK Diabetes and Nutrition Center. Individual appointments can be scheduled with registered dietitians who will assist you in formulating a healthy meal plan. The Weight & Wellness Solutions classes last six months and address eating habits, exercise and emotional well-being. Call 212-4250 for additional information.
Many women experience back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome during their pregnancies. Willis-Knighton has certified therapists to address these needs. Those who experience either of these conditions, should discuss it with their physicians and ask for a referral to one of the therapists who can help address the pain.
Occasionally, babies will experience developmental difficulties. Willis-Knighton has certified pediatric therapists to help identify and treat developmental disorders.
A gift shop is available at Willis-Knighton South and at WK Bossier Health Center. In addition to a wide array of gifts, both have items designed especially for the new baby and mom. WK/University Perinatal Center, staffed by specialists in maternal/fetal medicine, is available for women with high risk pregnancies. Their clinic is located on the campus of Willis-Knighton South, but the physicians support patients at all three hospitals.
In some instances newborns may require specialized services of an intensive care unit. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for the health system is located at Willis-Knighton South and the Center for Women’s Health. This NICU is one of the most modern in the country, designed with individual rooms to support developmental goals and bonding. It is staffed with experienced neonatologists and nursing who have special certification in caring for high risk infants. The NICU provides services to infants from all Willis-Knighton hospitals and accepts infants referred from other hospitals.
