Talbot Medical Museum

The museum is located in the Medical Arts Building, 2551 Greenwood Road, on the campus of Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The Talbot Medical Museum at Willis-Knighton was created in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Willis-Knighton Health System with the support of Dr. and Mrs. J. Dudley Talbot. The museum was developed to honor those who have contributed to medicine in our community. A collection of items retained by the health system and by former employees was combined with items from additional donors to create the museum. The museum recognizes the progress of the health system as well as the development of medicine in Shreveport-Bossier.

The Talbot Medical Museum follows the growth of Willis-Knighton hospital, beginning with the grand opening of a small suburban hospital in west Shreveport on Thanksgiving Day in 1924. It traces the small hospital’s expansion to a health network.

Among the highlights:

  • Artifacts from Tri-State School of Nursing, including a nurse’s cape and cap
  • Oil portraits of Doctors Willis and Knighton
  • Surgical instruments
  • Pharmaceutical bottles
  • Orthopedic surgery operating table
  • Brass elevator operating panel from original building
  • Early photos of Tri-Sate Sanitarium (now Willis-Knighton Medical Center)
  • Early hospital records, including bills for services
  • Original safe from the Willis-Knighton Clinic
