Portal Imaging Amorphous Silicon On-Line Portal Imaging

Breakthrough Technology! The Willis-Knighton Cancer Center is proud to offer the first two clinically available Amorphous Silicon On-Line Portal Imaging systems in the United States with only 4 worldwide sites previously utilizing the technology for research purposes. Portal Imaging assists the physician with patient positioning and field verification without excess patient radiation exposure. Treatment times are also dramatically reduced with this technology. Image enhancement tools are available as part of this process. Click here to see more.

IMRT ACQSIM (Dedicated CT Simulator)

The ACQSIM, a dedicated CT simulator, is the leader of the industry. High resolution imaging of tumors and surrounding healthy tissues are the prerequisite for virtual simulation and the preparation of radiation fields in the virtual environment. Radiation planning sessions are therefore much less time intensive with improved accuracy. CT planning and radiation guidance are part of a standard protocol for all patients.

100KVP ADAC "Pinnacle"

Widely recognized as the most comprehensive 3-D treatment planning computer available in the world. This system utilizes CT images to reconstruct a three dimensional image of a tumor and the dose to the surrounding healthy structures. This tool as well as the creation of special dose volumes histograms and digital reconstructed radiographs aid the physician in treatment planning. 3-D Conformal therapy allows for radiation delivery that spares healthy tissue and conforms to the tumor.

microSelectron-HDR Brachytherapy HDR Brachytherapy Unit (Nucletron)

The Nucletron HDR microSelectron is a robotic system for delivering radiotherapy directly to a tumor bed. It utilizes a high energy radioactive iridium wire. This unit has replaced low dose rate implant procedures for most tumor sites. A typical case requiring approximately 40 hours in a hospital in the past can now be done in (3) three (45) forty-five minute visits as an outpatient. This device is useful in cancers of the gynecological tract, lung, esophagus and prostate. The Willis-Knighton Radiation Oncology department has a specialized brachytherapy suite designed for this unit. Click here to see more.

Varis Varis (Integrated Patient Management System)

The latest generation in computer integration, this system binds all aspects of the Radiation Oncology Department including scheduling dose verification, image storage, and treatment records. Patient statistics and outcomes are easily accessed for the development of clinical trials and for publication purposes.
