Technology & Protocols

Because our emergency departments are incorporated into full-service acute care hospitals, patients here have access to the broad range of technology for which Willis-Knighton is known. When determining where to go for a serious emergency, you’ll want to select a place that has the ability to treat most of these conditions on-site.  Among the features and technology shared throughout the system are:

  • Chest Pain Accreditation
The emergency department at Willis-Knighton Medical Center is chest-pain accredited, and follows the same protocols at all WK locations. A door-to-balloon time of 90 minutes or less for heart patients is the goal at all WK emergency locations.
  • Stroke Certification
This certification has been awarded to WK Pierremont Health Center, the home of the health system’s first Stroke Center, with these protocols in place at the other WK locations.
  • Nurse Certifications
All nurses are certified in ACLS, pediatric advanced life support as well as a variety of many other specialties.
  • Advanced Imaging Access
Immediate access to imaging at all levels is available 24/7.
  • Documentation & Connectivity
All WK emergency departments are connected through the health system’s documentation system.  Records from previous visits are electronically integrated.
  • Opioid Protocols
WK emergency department physicians support the Louisiana Opioid Prescribing Recommendations, which are posted in all emergency departments.
