PET/CT
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning is located at the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center on the WK Medical Center campus. These scans are ordered by physicians to assist in detecting primary and metastatic disease as well as residual or recurrent tumors. They are also used to stage or restage a known malignant disease and the extent of the disease process. Patients are given a radiopharmaceutical substance which adheres to the active disease process within the body. The PET scan provides high quality, fine detail images of this area. Physicians are also able to use the PET scans to guide treatment plans such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy and assess the effectiveness of these treatments.
