Willis-Knighton has been home to a number of healthcare firsts in the region, including the world’s first compact pencil-beam proton therapy unit at the Willis-Knighton Cancer Center. Advanced technology extends to the Willis-Knighton Heart & Vascular Institute which offers 13 cath labs throughout the community. Surgeons affiliated with the Heart and Vascular Institute perform more than 600 heart surgeries annually. The Willis-Knighton Eye Institute has introduced a variety of surgical advances in the field of ophthalmology, including laser cataract surgery, refractive surgery and specialized procedures for treatment of macular degeneration and glaucoma. The health system’s John C. McDonald Regional Transplant Center offers organ transplantation for kidney, liver and pancreas. With a tradition of service since 1924, Willis-Knighton is the community’s largest charitable donor, providing grants to community organizations and governmental agencies through its “tithe the bottom line” philosophy of giving.
