Meet Dr. Christopher L. Shelby

Eye surgeon Dr. Shelby is a Shreveport native and a graduate of Texas A&M University. He returned to Shreveport where he earned a medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, serving his internship and residency at the same institute.

After establishing his practice at WK Pierremont Health Center, he opened the Pierremont Eye Institute in 2003. Dr. Shelby performs all his cataract surgery at WK Eye Surgery Center located in WK Eye Institute. In 2012 Dr. Shelby became the first surgeon in Louisiana to be certified to perform laser cataract surgery using the LenSx Femtosecond Laser located at WK Eye Surgery Center. He provides his cataract patients with the latest advancement in cataract surgery using the LenSx laser along with Premium lens implants, reducing and possibly eliminating patients’ need for glasses.

Dr. Shelby has been performing LASIK since 2004. In 2012 with the opening of the new state of the art WK Refractive Surgery Center located in WK Eye Institute, that houses the FS200 Aqua and Allegretto Wavelight-Q lasers, Dr. Shelby is able to offer his patients the latest advancement in LASIK technology.

Dr. Shelby teaches cataract surgery to LSU ophthalmology residents at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. He also trains fellow ophthalmologist on the LenSx Femtosecond laser.

Dr. Shelby is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Shreveport Medical Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Europeon Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

His interest in surgery is no surprise to those who know him well because he is the son of pioneer heart surgeon Dr. Stan Shelby. The younger Dr. Shelby and his wife Carolyn, are proud to call Shreveport “home” for themselves and their three children.
