Dr. Frederick J. White, III discusses hypertension on KTBS Healthline 3

August 8, 2025

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, also known as the silent killer, can have many effects on your body. It causes stress on the walls of your arteries and multiple organs.

According to Dr. White, as long as your blood pressure numbers are not extreme, lifestyle habit changes are the number one way to manage high blood pressure and several other chronic diseases:

  • Quit smoking
  • Lose weight
  • Cut back on alcohol
  • Start exercising

Drug therapy may then become part of the conversation, along with continued lifestyle interventions. Whatever therapy or combination of therapies your physician recommends, reducing your blood pressure numbers five to 10 points can reduce your long-term cardiovascular risk by 10%.

Frederick J. White, III, with Willis Knighton Cardiology South, sat down with KTBS 3 to discuss hypertension.
