Impella® Heart Pump

Termed “the world’s smallest heart pump,” this device is implanted during a heart catheterization procedure.

How It Works

  • Pulls blood from the heart and pumps the oxygenated blood to vital organs in the body.
  • Typically used for high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and for short-term treatment of ongoing cardiogenic shock.

  • Improves survival of cardiogenic shock patients
  • Fewer adverse events when compared to IABP
  • Reduced length of stay
